Frequent questions (FAQ) / Why do we use aluminium instead of PVC or polyethylene?

The use of PVC and polyethylene for the manufacturing of solid set coverage systems is something recent, as a certain implantation was not achieved till the end of the 80's and due basically to the constant increases in aluminum prices, as a consequence of the great demand of it.

The only reason of a certain spreading of PVC and polyethylene coverage system was the low cost. Anyway, with actual prices from aluminium, this difference is not any more so significant and even less in polyethylene installations, where a high percentage of the installation cost is aluminum. All those installation pieces that require certain mechanic characteristics, as joining pieces between pipes, valves, supports, stabilizers and so on are made in aluminium.

So instead of calling this a polyethylene coverage installation it should be called Aluminum-polyethylene.

Plastic is an element that bears very bad the attack of solar rays and sharp changes in temperatures, becoming old very quickly and appearing cracks in the pipes, what provokes a short installation life and so a very high amortization value. If we also take into consideration its null repurchase value, it is very easy to imagine that when a profitability study is made on these two options, we will always choose aluminium without any doubt.
