COTTON: Gossypium herbaceum (Indian cotton), Gossypium barbadense (Egyptian cotton), Gossypium hirstium (American cotton).

Cotton belongs to the Malvaceae family.
Cotton obtains the biggest performance with temperatures between 20ºC and 30ºC.

Cotton is a very demanding crop of water during all the development of the plant, so the choice of the irrigation system is of vital importance. Sprinkling irrigation in cotton is similar to the natural rain when talking about application conditions. A sprinkling irrigation system in cotton crops shows many advantages, such as: the cleaning of leaves" surface through irrigation, improving this way cotton plants" efficiency, sprinkling irrigation in cotton crops allows us to fight against frosts as well as to reduce cotton plants" temperature, fight against pests simply by irrigation application and even by adding to the sprinkling irrigation water from pesticides to foliar fertilizers.

Cotton does not bear flooding, so it is recommended the application of sprinkling irrigation, as with this system, water application speed is generally slower, reducing this way the appearance of floods.

In sprinkling irrigation in cotton crops, unlike localised irrigation, it does not exist a web bulb that limits roots" development, as they show a bigger volume of soil to explore. Also sprinkling irrigation has many advantages against other irrigation systems, such as its durability, reliability, maintenance simplicity, independence on specialized manpower, easiness to storage, cost/ha of sprinkling irrigation, residual sale value and so on.
Cotton crops bear soils with big salt concentration.

There are different ways of sowing mostly used in cotton crops:
-Direct sowing in open fields
-Sowing with plastic padded
-Sowing over balk
The resultant plantation frame after the cleaning is generally of 0.95m between lines and 10cm between plants.
